New Album Release - The Fresh & Onlys ♪

The Fresh & Onlys are Tim Cohen, Shayde Sartin, Kyle Gibson, Wymond Miles, and Heidi Alexander - a San Francisco psychedlic-beat-garage-rock-based band that's one heaping part Joy Division, another part Iggy Pop & The Stooges, a smidgen of Sonic Youth and a dash of The Pixies! This is frickin' exciting. Because this post-punk sound actually has legitimate musical street cred, they make The Killers look like a purple poodle in a crocodile cage. What's up with Brandon Flowers trying to be the next Morrissey and Ian Curtis anyways? Not with that voice he isn't. To spit the truth, the Fresh & Onlys might possibly be one of the few bands out right now that can pull off attempting to walk in Morrissey-Curtis shoes with the kind of experimental post-punk dress suit they're wearing....just saying...

I was listening to their song "Invisible Forces" on their Myspace page and swore that I heard Ian Curtis' chasm of a voice echoing through the microphone. It's creepy how he sings, "Invisible forces, invisible forces" with a shake of power and instability in his voice. The female singer in the background makes for good ghostly effect too - almost like that creepy child singing that every horror movie has in it. "Hated Or Loved" reminded me of Paul Simon's "Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard". It has the same kind of upbeat sound to it. "On The Verge" has an old school Belle and Sebastian feel to it, which I appreciated, mixed with a slight battle hymn to the drums.

The Fresh & Onlys have the following music out now: "I'll Tell You Everything" 7", "Castle Face" Self-titled LP, "Imaginary Friends" EP 7", and now "Grey-Eyed Girls" their second full-length album out today!!!
